Assignment 5

Assignment 5: Text
Assignment 5: Work

Reflection

This exercise was really challenging for me and really difficult to execute. I began by shooting near my house and I was really disappointed with my results. I tried taking the shots at a park near my house and had a lot of difficulties finding variety.  After the debacle with my zoom lens, I finally decided to treat myself to a new lens, which I love! I shot a photo last summer for a film direction class and decided to drive down to that location today and give the assignment another shot. (Pun intended?) The dull flat light today really detracted from the outcome. At least I had plenty of opportunities when it comes to the subject matter, there were a lot of choices.  The location was scary, I asked a good friend of mine to accompany me, to be my security guard while I worked. There weren't any dangerous hombres around, but there were a lot of kids exploring. The kids in the last photo were really curious and asked if I could take their picture. I explained to them that they would have to hold really still, that I would count down and that they would have to freeze until they heard the second click of the shutter. I loved taking this photo and it is now my favorite of the group.

I am really struggling with how much the images changes: what I see in my viewfinder, what I see when I look at the image in the back of the camera, and the appearance of the image in my computer, especially after I load them into Lightroom Classic. I love the look of the image in the field -I come home, download the images and they are all usually tragically underexposed. This latest round of images was the worst of any I have taken so far.

This assignment really pushed me to my limit. I feel like I did learn a lot, but I am really unhappy with what I ended up with. I am paying attention to framing the shot when I take it, not relying on cropping in the edit. That is my one positive feeling after this assignment.
